Pipefitter / Installation Engineer (Full‑time, Temporary)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced BPS Fitter / Installation Engineer to join our busy production and installation team in Preston. The role involves hands‑on assembly, manufacture and installation of commercial pipework systems, packaged plantrooms, boiler skids and utility cupboard heating systems, both in a factory setting and occasionally on client sites.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, manufacture and install commercial pipework systems, packaged plantrooms, boiler skids and utility cupboard heating systems.
• Read detailed schematic drawings and 3D assembly layouts to plan pipe systems and related equipment.
• Measure, mark, cut, thread and assemble pipework components using copper, screwed steel, press‑fit and crimped methods.
• Secure pipework with appropriate fixtures, brackets and clamps.
• Carry out strength and tightness testing on gas and water pipework in line with codes and regulatory standards.
• Repair, maintain and support pipe systems, supports and associated equipment.
• Apply safe techniques for temporary or permanent removal of pipework‑related components.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety, building regulations, ISO procedures, CDM regulations and quality plans.

Required profile

• Time‑served mechanical pipefitter, heating engineer or similar background.
• NVQ Level 3 in mechanical pipefitting, plumbing, heating or equivalent preferred; minimum NVQ Level 2.
• Working knowledge of commercial heating equipment such as boilers, pumps, press units and expansion vessels.
• Experience installing commercial pipework using copper, screwed steel, press‑fit or crimped methods.
• Ability to read and interpret schematic layouts and 3D assembly drawings.
• Good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• CSCS card (construction skills certification) preferred.
