Planning Assistant – Junior Supply Chain Role

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Planning Assistant to join a well‑established manufacturing business in Preston. Reporting to the Senior Planner, you will provide essential administrative and operational support to the Supply Chain team, helping to keep material flow smooth and information accurate.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Procurement Inbox, record supplier order confirmations in the ERP system, and follow up on any delays.
• Communicate supplier issues to the Senior Planner and maintain commodity code records.
• Order direct and indirect materials, support inventory management and maintain optimal stock levels.
• Update supplier price lists and ensure system data remains accurate.
• Assist in meeting supply chain KPIs such as on‑time delivery and stock targets.
• Uphold Health & Safety standards and company procedures.
• Perform any additional reasonable duties to support business needs.

Required profile

• Excellent organisational ability with strong attention to detail.
• Proactive, enthusiastic and keen to develop a career in Supply Chain or Planning.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
• Effective communication skills and a collaborative team mindset.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Outlook and Word.
• Previous experience in planning, procurement, supply chain or manufacturing and exposure to ERP/MRP systems is desirable.
