Plant Buyer

About the role

We are looking for a dynamic Plant Buyer to develop and manage our seasonal plant category at our head office in Plymouth. You will work closely with the Gardens team to drive sales, maintain margins and ensure a high‑quality product range.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the seasonal plant range, aligning with business objectives and sales targets.
• Manage supplier relationships across the UK and Europe, including negotiations, regular communication and site visits.
• Plan and control delivery schedules, complying with import regulations and minimizing wastage.
• React to seasonal demand fluctuations, identify risks and implement solutions to maintain availability.
• Monitor market trends, competitor activity and customer preferences, analysing sales data to suggest range improvements.
• Create promotional plans in collaboration with Social and Marketing teams.
• Support the Gardens Buyer on cross‑department projects linking plants to the wider Gardens offering.

Required profile

• Proven retail buying experience, especially with seasonal or perishable goods.
• Strong negotiation and commercial acumen with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to spot trends, analyse data and forecast seasonal peaks.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills; comfortable working under pressure.
• Willingness to travel across the UK and Europe for trade shows and supplier visits.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Data management and basic analytical abilities.
