Plant Manager – Construction Groundworks

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Plant Manager for a busy groundworks subcontractor based in Swindon. You will lead a small team of mechanics and drivers, ensuring all plant and equipment are maintained, inspected and ready for daily construction activities.

Key responsibilities

• Visit construction sites regularly to inspect plant and equipment.
• Organise and administer repair, maintenance and pre‑delivery/return inspections.
• Coordinate LOLER and PUWER inspections and communicate breakdown updates at daily briefings.
• Liaise with site managers, manufacturers and internal teams to resolve technical issues.
• Source, raise and track orders for parts, consumables and services.
• Maintain workshop consumables, van stock levels and oversee waste oil, battery and tyre disposal.
• Manage health and safety of the workshop and yard.
• Lead, instruct and schedule the workload of mechanics and drivers.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience as a Workshop or Depot Manager.
• Proven progression from fitter to supervisor to manager.
• NVQ or equivalent in plant maintenance.
• Full driving licence.
• Strong knowledge of plant and vehicle legislation (LOLER, PUWER).
