Plant Operative – Waste Management (12‑hr Shifts)

About the role

We are looking for a Plant Operative to join a busy waste‑management facility in Tilbury. The role works 12‑hour day or night shifts, ensuring the plant runs safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and operate sorting machines, screens and other plant equipment.
• Identify and clear blockages, respond to alarms and report faults.
• Maintain clean and safe walkways, landings and work areas.
• Complete accurate shift hand‑over paperwork at the start and end of each shift.
• Operate a forklift (FLT) where trained and assist with material movement.
• Monitor waste streams and address any variations promptly.
• Support maintenance teams during plant downtimes.

Required profile

• Good knowledge of health and safety practices.
• Current FLT (forklift) licence.
• Strong attention to detail and logical fault‑finding ability.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
