Platform Engineer – Cheltenham

About the role

Sixworks is looking for a Platform Engineer to join its small, high‑performing team in Cheltenham. You will design, deploy and improve secure digital platforms that support defence and national‑security missions, working both in cloud (AWS) and on‑premises (VMware) environments.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy new solutions and enhance existing platforms in challenging, security‑focused environments.
• Adopt an MVP approach: build incrementally, learn from failures, and iterate quickly.
• Manage and support production systems, ensuring reliability, performance and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with teammates and customers to share ideas and solve complex technical problems.

Required profile

• Passion for delivering customer outcomes and understanding the mission context.
• Comfort working in ambiguous situations and a willingness to spend several days a week on‑site with the team.
• Experience operating production environments that serve live users.
• Strong curiosity, problem‑solving ability and drive for continuous improvement.
