Platform Engineering Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Platform Engineering Manager to lead a high‑impact Kubernetes project for a major UK government department. You will oversee a large‑scale platform running over 400 Pods and up to 140k Nodes, driving continuous improvement, optimisation, and scaling across multiple cloud environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of platform engineers in the design, deployment and operation of Kubernetes‑based services.
• Own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP and Azure.
• Implement and maintain IaC pipelines using Terraform and Ansible.
• Drive CI/CD practices with GitOps, GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
• Ensure observability and reliability through OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace and Grafana.
• Mentor and manage engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading platform or DevOps teams in complex, production‑grade environments.
• Strong background with Kubernetes, Helm, Kops, Service Mesh and Istio.
• Hands‑on expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and Linux systems (RedHat, Ubuntu, Debian).
• Demonstrated ability to design and operate IaC solutions (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
