Platform Software Engineer – Python (Core Engineering)

About the role

We are looking for a Platform Software Engineer with strong Python expertise to join a core engineering group that builds foundational platforms for quant, trading and analytics teams in a major global banking environment. This role focuses on creating the underlying frameworks, tooling and runtime capabilities that other engineering teams rely on, rather than delivering end‑user business features.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop core Python‑based platforms, frameworks and shared services.
• Create developer platforms used across multiple engineering and quant teams.
• Build APIs, SDKs, tooling and service frameworks to enable large‑scale system development.
• Improve scalability, reliability and performance of shared platform components.
• Work on distributed systems and service‑oriented architecture foundations.
• Enhance CI/CD pipelines, deployment tooling and overall engineering productivity.
• Contribute to standards, patterns and reusable infrastructure across the organisation.
• Collaborate with quant and engineering teams to ensure platform capabilities meet advanced workload requirements.

Required profile

• Strong professional experience using Python as the primary engineering language.
• Background in platform engineering or core systems development.
• Proven track record building internal platforms, frameworks or shared engineering infrastructure.
• Experience designing systems that are consumed by other developers.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, micro‑service architectures, API and SDK design, and system performance and scalability.
• Experience working in large‑scale, multi‑team engineering environments.
