Plumber – Onward Maintenance Team

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Plumber to join Axis’s Onward Maintenance Team on the Peabody Housing contract, covering around 8,000 properties in Thamesmead and surrounding areas. The role combines specialist plumbing work with multi‑trade repairs, delivering resident‑focused, first‑time‑fix solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform plumbing tasks such as leak detection, hot/cold water repairs, immersion tank servicing, and bathroom/kitchen installations.
• Assist with multi‑trade repairs including wall and floor tiling, 1st and 2nd fix carpentry, plaster patching, and painting & decorating to professional standards.
• Record work in real time using the Axis mobile app.
• Collaborate with supervisors, planners and admin teams to ensure smooth delivery.
• Complete risk assessments and follow health and safety procedures on every job.
• Support apprentices and uphold high standards of customer service.
• Work in occupied residential properties and participate in out‑of‑hours or emergency call‑out rota as required.

Required profile

• Reliable, adaptable tradesperson with pride in high‑quality workmanship.
• Clear communication with residents and ability to work well within a team.
• Full UK driving licence and well‑maintained tool kit.
• Knowledge of social housing repairs and strong health & safety awareness.

Required skills

• NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Plumbing (or equivalent).
• Valid Unvented Hot Water Systems Certificate.
• Experience in tiling, carpentry, plastering and decorating.
• Ability to safely isolate and test electrical components.
