Policy Planning Officer – Temporary (Hybrid)

About the role

We are looking for a Policy Planning Officer on a temporary contract to join Stockport Council’s planning team. The role will be hybrid, with two days in the office and the rest remote, and will support the Council’s strategic planning objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation, monitoring and review of the Council’s Local Plan and associated policy documents.
• Provide specialist advice on planning policy to colleagues, elected members, developers and the public.
• Represent the Council in statutory plan‑making processes, including Examination in Public.
• Monitor changes to national and regional planning legislation and guidance.
• Support Development Management by contributing policy input to major applications and pre‑application discussions.
• Prepare reports, briefing notes and responses to consultations on planning policy issues.

Required profile

• 4‑6 years of experience in planning policy within a local authority or consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation, policy frameworks and Local Plan processes.
• Proven ability to analyse complex planning issues and produce evidence‑based advice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience preparing Infrastructure Delivery Plans (IDPs) is highly desirable.
