Positive Behaviour Support Lead

About the role

The Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Lead will work within Lavender Lodge School to develop and deliver a high‑quality, person‑centred PBS approach. You will partner with children, families and staff to create environments where young people with complex needs can thrive and achieve meaningful progress.

Key responsibilities

• Support the design, organisation and delivery of the school's PBS framework.
• Co‑produce individualised support plans with pupils, families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Provide PBS training, coaching and role‑modelling for staff to ensure consistent practice.
• Analyse challenging behaviour to understand its function and develop proactive strategies.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to embed best practice across the school.

Required profile

• Proven experience working with autistic pupils, including those who are non‑verbal.
• Ability to communicate using a range of methods such as Makaton, picture exchange communication (PEC) and PODD.
• Experience supporting children displaying challenging behaviour and a commitment to understanding its underlying causes.
• Flexibility to work with children aged 4‑11 years.
• Creative problem‑solving skills to adapt lessons and interventions.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Makaton, PEC and PODD communication systems.
• Understanding of functional behaviour analysis and positive behaviour support techniques.
