Postal Delivery Driver – Fixed-term (6 months)

About the role

Join Royal Mail as a Postal Delivery Driver in Jarrow and become the friendly face that brings letters, parcels and everyday moments to the local community. This fixed‑term position offers a rotating shift pattern, including weekends, and provides full training, a uniform and an iconic red van.

Key responsibilities

• Sort letters and parcels at the Jarrow Delivery Office.
• Deliver mail and parcels by van and on foot across assigned routes.
• Build positive relationships with customers while working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Handle a variety of items such as exam results, birthday cards, business orders and other important deliveries.

Required profile

• Full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points) registered to your current name and address.
• Willingness and ability to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit – able to walk up to 12 miles per shift, climb stairs or hills and lift/carry mailbags of 10 kg or more.
• Reliable, self‑motivated and able to work independently.
• Strong organisational skills and resilience in a fast‑paced, time‑pressured environment.
• Customer‑focused with pride in delivering great service.
