Postdoctoral Research Associate in Artificial Molecular Machines

About the role

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on artificial molecular machines within the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford. The role involves synthesising molecular machines that can interact with lipid bilayer membranes and managing associated research projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute multi‑step syntheses of mechanically interlocked molecules and molecular shuttles.
• Characterise complex molecular systems using advanced analytical techniques.
• Develop and study systems with controllable molecular motion, including integration into lipid bilayer vesicles.
• Manage own research agenda, meet project deadlines, and handle administrative duties.
• Supervise team members and coordinate laboratory activities when required.

Required profile

• PhD (or near completion) in synthetic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry or a closely related field.
• Proven expertise in multi‑step synthetic organic chemistry and characterisation of complex molecules.
• Experience in quantitative supramolecular chemistry, physical organic chemistry and/or systems chemistry.
• Desirable experience analysing functional molecular systems in lipid bilayer vesicles, including fluorescence spectroscopy.
