Postperson (Delivery Driver) – Part‑time Fixed‑term

About the role

Join Royal Mail as a Postperson delivering letters and parcels across Chester le Street. This part‑time, fixed‑term role lets you stay active, work outdoors and become the friendly face of the service for your local community.

Key responsibilities

• Sort letters and parcels at the Chester le Street delivery office.
• Deliver post by van and on foot within your assigned area.
• Build relationships with customers and deliver a wide range of items, from exam results to birthday cards.
• Work a rotating shift schedule, including weekends and Sundays at the Durham Delivery Office.
• Maintain the iconic red Royal Mail van and follow safety procedures.

Required profile

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points) registered to your current name and address.
• Willingness and ability to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit – able to walk up to 12 miles (20,000+ steps), climb stairs or hills, and lift/carry mailbags of 10 kg or more.
• Reliable, self‑motivated and able to work independently in all weather conditions.
• Strong organisational skills and resilience in a fast‑paced environment.

• Driving a Royal Mail van safely and efficiently.
