PR and Communications Officer

About the role

This permanent position supports Beatson Cancer Charity’s mission to ensure no one faces cancer alone. Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, you will help shape the charity’s public profile and tell impactful stories across multiple channels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement media plans to maximise coverage opportunities.
• Handle media enquiries, draft statements and manage press‑office activities.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists to secure coverage for campaigns and initiatives.
• Create engaging content for publications, reports and digital platforms.
• Support the production and promotion of the charity’s podcast series.
• Monitor, evaluate and report on media coverage and PR activity.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent experience in PR, communications or journalism.
• Minimum two years’ experience in a press office, PR agency or journalism role.
• Strong writing, editing and project‑management abilities.
• Experience in media relations and building journalist networks.
• Passion for working in a charitable, non‑profit environment.

What we offer

• Salary £29,000‑£32,000 per year.
• 35‑hour week with flexibility for evenings and weekends.
• 40 days annual leave (including public holidays).
