Practice-Based Accountant – Stevenage

About the role

A well‑established accountancy practice in Stevenage is seeking an experienced and confident Accountant to join its growing team. This hands‑on position supports a varied portfolio of SME clients across multiple sectors, delivering high‑quality accounting, tax and advisory services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of SME clients as the main point of contact.
• Prepare year‑end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Complete corporation tax returns, personal tax returns and VAT submissions.
• Handle bookkeeping and management accounts as required.
• Support clients with queries on accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
• Assist with payroll processing when needed.
• Review work prepared by junior team members and provide guidance.
• Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards and HMRC regulations.
• Contribute to process improvements and support the wider practice team.

Required profile

• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice (essential).
• ACCA/ACA qualified, part‑qualified or qualified by experience.
• Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax requirements.
• Confident preparing accounts from incomplete records.
• Excellent communication and client‑focused approach.
