Practice Client Manager – SME Accounting (Hybrid)

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Practice Client Manager to lead a portfolio of SME and owner‑managed businesses from our modern accountancy practice in Stevenage. The role is full‑time (35 hrs/week), hybrid after a probationary period, and offers autonomy, progression and a commercial influence within a growing firm.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a dedicated portfolio of SME clients, acting as the primary point of contact.
• Review year‑end accounts, corporation tax, personal tax and VAT returns.
• Lead client meetings, provide practical financial advice and present management accounts.
• Support clients with cloud‑based accounting software, particularly Xero.
• Identify and develop additional advisory service opportunities.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.
• Ensure deadlines are met and work is completed accurately.
• Collaborate with directors to support practice growth.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Proven experience managing a client portfolio within an accountancy practice.
• Strong technical knowledge of accounts and tax.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Experience mentoring junior staff.
• Organisational and time‑management capability.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero and other cloud accounting systems.
