Preconstruction Manager – Hybrid – Up to £65,000

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Pre‑Construction Manager to lead the tender process for a rapidly‑growing contractor in the South West. Reporting directly to the directors, you will own end‑to‑end bid preparation, assess technical viability and help shape the company’s winning strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full tender process from enquiry to submission.
• Write and coordinate bid and PQQ responses.
• Assess technical viability and identify design or buildability concerns.
• Carry out and review mechanical take‑offs from drawings and specifications.
• Provide technical input into pricing and submission documents.
• Ensure clear handover of pre‑construction information to the delivery team.
• Maintain accurate records of tender activity, pipeline and outcomes.
• Contribute to go/no‑go decisions with early‑stage cost and programme input.
• Report regularly to the Director on bid status and commercial matters.

Required profile

• Solid mechanical engineering background.
• Hands‑on experience in pre‑construction or estimating within the M&E sector.
• Competent in mechanical take‑offs and able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience reviewing and responding to contract documentation.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously and meet firm deadlines.
