Premises Assistant / Handyperson

About the role

Join the Building Services team at a school in Bristol, working as part of a small caretaking crew to keep the site safe, secure and well‑managed. The role combines planned and reactive maintenance, security, porterage and cleaning duties, and supports school events and emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine and reactive building maintenance, including HVAC systems where required.
• Perform security checks, porterage and cleaning tasks across the school site.
• Prepare classrooms and common areas for assemblies, meetings and out‑of‑school activities.
• Respond to emergencies and provide on‑call support as needed.
• Work a shift pattern of 6 am‑3 pm, Monday‑Friday, with occasional early/late or evening cover.

Required profile

• Good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and a basic understanding of COSHH.
• Reliable, proactive and able to work independently as well as within a team.
• Willingness to obtain an IOSH Working Safely certification if not already held.
• Enhanced DBS (CRB) clearance – mandatory for the role.
