Prescribing Support Technician

About the role

The Prescribing Support Technician will work within the NHS Lothian Primary Care Pharmacy and Medicines Service, supporting GP practices across Edinburgh. This role is central to the transformation of pharmaceutical care, ensuring safe, cost‑effective, and evidence‑based prescribing.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with GPs, practice staff, community pharmacists, care home teams and the multidisciplinary HSCP team.
• Support the development and delivery of high‑quality prescribing initiatives.
• Contribute to patient‑centred care across GP practices, the pharmacotherapy hub and care homes.
• Participate in prescribing audits, medication reviews and quality‑improvement projects.
• Provide guidance on safe and cost‑effective medication use.

Required profile

• Qualified Pharmacy Technician with registration.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and able to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with clinicians and patients.

Required skills

• Knowledge of NHS prescribing guidelines and pharmacy practice.
• Ability to interpret clinical information and support prescribing decisions.
