Prevention Manager

About the role

This temporary position is based in West Sussex and supports a local authority in delivering statutory housing advice and homelessness prevention services. The role offers a competitive rate of £43 per hour and involves leading a dedicated team to meet legal and corporate requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and lead the team delivering statutory Housing Advice and Homelessness Prevention functions.
• Ensure compliance with current legal and corporate requirements for all statutory duties.
• Develop and review local procedures, providing guidance on complex cases.
• Support the Housing Options Manager and Legal Services with Judicial Reviews and s.204 appeals.
• Implement innovative, cost‑effective solutions to relieve homelessness.
• Respond to Duty to Refer referrals and collaborate with Housing Association landlords.
• Represent the team at MAPPA and MARAC, building relationships with Social Services, Health, Probation, and Police.
• Monitor team performance, casework levels, and deliver appraisals and training.

Required profile

• Strong working knowledge of homelessness legislation, case law and housing options.
• Experience managing or leading a team within a statutory housing or homelessness setting.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of welfare benefits and their impact on clients and the council.
• Confidence handling complex, sensitive cases including safeguarding and multi‑agency work.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused approach to homelessness prevention.
