Primary HLTA – September Start (Full‑time, Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to lead a nurture class in a primary school in Plymouth, starting in September 2026. This full‑time, six‑week temporary position involves delivering daily curriculum sessions and targeted wellbeing interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a nurture class of up to nine pupils, creating a supportive learning environment.
• Deliver planned curriculum lessons each day and integrate wellbeing activities based on Boxall Profiles.
• Collaborate with a team that includes one additional HLTA and one teaching assistant.
• Conduct marking, assessments, and use duty‑free playtimes and lunchtimes for preparation.
• Address SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and Communication & Interaction needs of pupils.

Required profile

• Qualified HLTA status or equivalent; Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is highly encouraged.
• Experience managing or leading a classroom, preferably in a nurture or special‑needs setting.
• Strong understanding of SEMH and communication needs in children.
• Commitment to professional development in special education and wellbeing.

Required skills

• Ability to plan and deliver educational content effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with pupils, staff, and parents.
