Primary Mental Health Assistant – Swindon

About the role
Join a welcoming primary school in Swindon as a Primary Mental Health Assistant. You will work directly with pupils to support their emotional wellbeing, helping them feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one support to help pupils regulate emotions and engage in learning.
- Support children with SEMH needs, autism, and additional learning needs.
- Deliver small‑group activities that build confidence, resilience and social skills.
- Apply positive behaviour strategies to promote emotional regulation.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to meet individual needs.
Required profile
- Patient, empathetic and resilient attitude.
- Genuine interest in children’s mental health and development.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships.
- Confidence supporting children with SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS check.
Required skills
- Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake).
- MAPA or CPI training (or willingness to undertake).
