Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (Speech & Language & SEMH Support)

About the role

We are seeking a caring Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support for two pupils across the school day. The role starts in September 2026 and combines speech and language assistance for a Year 1 child with dedicated SEMH support for another pupil in Totton.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one speech and language support to a Year 1 pupil each morning (8:30 am‑12:30 pm).
• Provide 1:1 SEMH support to a pupil on Monday and Tuesday afternoons (12:30 pm‑3:30 pm) in Totton.
• Use positive relationships and consistent strategies to promote communication, confidence, emotional regulation and engagement.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt activities and ensure inclusive learning.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and communicate updates to staff.

Required profile

• Experience working with children who have SEN, speech & language, or SEMH needs.
• Patient, nurturing and resilient attitude.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Flexibility to adapt to differing learning styles and needs.
• Genuine passion for helping children achieve their potential.

Required skills

• Knowledge of speech and language development strategies.
• Understanding of SEMH support techniques.
