Primary Teacher – Year 1/2 (Maternity Cover)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Primary Teacher to cover Year 1 and Year 2 classes at a small church primary school on the outskirts of Chorley. This fixed‑term position runs from September 2026 to July 2027, providing maternity cover in a peaceful rural setting.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, curriculum‑aligned lessons for Year 1/2 pupils.
• Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
• Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback.
• Collaborate with colleagues and communicate effectively with parents.
• Promote a love of learning and help each child reach their potential.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England.
• Proven experience teaching Key Stage 1.
• Experience working in a classroom setting, preferably with phonics support.
• Enhanced DBS clearance (and overseas police checks if applicable).
• Legal right to work in the UK.

Required skills

• Strong lesson‑planning and delivery abilities.
• Effective classroom management.
• Ability to track and assess pupil progress.
• Good communication with staff, parents and the wider school community.
