Primary Teaching Assistant – 30 hrs/week

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Key Stage 1 at a school in Preston. The position is 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, providing targeted assistance to children with SEND, SEMH and ASD needs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEND, SEMH and ASD.
• Assist teachers in delivering lessons, ensuring pupils are engaged and participating.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
• Implement individual support plans and intervention programmes.
• Supervise pupils during lunchtime and break periods, safeguarding their welfare.
• Support Forest School and outdoor learning activities where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil progress discussions.

Required profile

• Experience supporting children with SEND, including SEMH, ASD and challenging behaviours.
• Background working in a primary school setting, preferably Key Stage 1.
• Ability to implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policy.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• Experience supervising pupils during breaks and ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed.

Required skills

• Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
• First Aid qualification.
• Desirable: Forest School experience or outdoor learning qualifications.
