Principal Building Safety Manager

About the role

Westminster City Council is seeking a Principal Building Safety Manager to lead safety across its housing portfolio. The role reports to the Head of Compliance & Building Safety and combines strategic oversight with hands‑on management of high‑risk buildings.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve building safety policies, processes and procedures.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team including Building Safety Managers, a Structural Engineer and Resident Engagement staff.
• Oversee the production and quality assurance of Building Safety Case Reports and risk assessments.
• Ensure all in‑scope buildings are registered with the Building Safety Regulator and maintain the “golden thread” of safety information.
• Coordinate safety programmes, allocate actions to works teams and provide expert fire‑safety advice to internal stakeholders.
• Lead safety committee meetings, report on compliance, risks and KPIs, and drive resident engagement initiatives.
• Support procurement of fire‑remediation works and contribute to major works gateway applications.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in building safety management, preferably within a public‑sector housing environment.
• Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams and delivery of high‑risk building safety strategies.
• Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021 and related regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to engage residents and promote a safety‑first culture.
