Principal Civil Engineer

About the role

Our client is a well‑established multi‑disciplinary consultancy specialising in transport planning, travel planning and civil & structural engineering. They are looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to lead drainage, highways and external works projects from planning through to construction, working on a variety of public and private sector developments across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage civil engineering projects covering drainage, highways and external works.
• Oversee design teams, mentor junior staff and conduct performance appraisals.
• Plan, allocate and control resources to ensure efficient delivery and team performance.
• Produce and review engineering designs, reports and drawings in line with standards and regulations.
• Collaborate with clients, local authorities, developers, architects and sub‑consultants.
• Manage project budgets, costs and fee proposals while maintaining commercial awareness.
• Ensure compliance with quality management systems, health & safety and sustainability requirements.
• Identify and manage design risks and support continuous improvement processes.
• Attend client meetings and site visits to maintain strong professional relationships.
• Contribute to business development through client engagement and marketing activities.

Required profile

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) working towards CEng with the Institution of Civil Engineers.

What we offer

• Competitive salary between £55,000 and £75,000 per year.
