Principal Civil & Structural Engineer – Energy Projects

About the role
Join a leading consultancy delivering transformative engineering solutions across nuclear, renewable energy and high‑energy industrial sectors. As a Principal Civil & Structural Engineer you will own complex civil and structural packages, lead multidisciplinary teams and shape nationally significant projects from Small Modular Reactor development to net‑zero energy infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Act as Responsible Engineer and Technical Authority on major energy projects.
- Lead design strategy, standards and best practices across civil and structural disciplines.
- Oversee safety case inputs, technical documentation and quality assurance.
- Provide governance, assurance and technical leadership for safety‑critical systems.
- Engage with clients, regulators and industry bodies at senior level.
- Drive innovation, digital tools and continuous improvement.
- Support business development and client relationship management.
Required profile
- Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (MEng, MSc, BEng, BSc).
- Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body.
- Proven experience in technical leadership or Responsible Engineer roles.
- Extensive background in civil and structural design within regulated environments, preferably nuclear.
- Deep understanding of nuclear safety, regulation and quality assurance.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Commitment to mentoring and continuous professional development.
Required skills
- Knowledge of design standards such as ACI, ASCE and AISC.
- Proficiency with BIM tools.
- Finite Element Modelling and validation expertise.
- Understanding of nuclear safety regulations and safety case documentation.
