Principal Clinical Psychologist (Internal Only)

About the role

The Principal Clinical Psychologist will join the Clinical Health Psychology Service at Ayrshire Central Hospital, delivering specialist psychological support to patients with long‑term physical health conditions across general medicine.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, formulate case formulations and deliver evidence‑based interventions for patients in specialties such as diabetes, oncology, renal, gastro‑enterology and respiratory.
• Collaborate within multi‑disciplinary teams including nursing, medical and allied health professionals.
• Provide expert advice and consultation to acute medical teams on psychological aspects of patient care.
• Contribute to service development and supervise junior psychologists as required.

Required profile

• Registered Clinical Psychologist with experience in health psychology.
• Demonstrated ability to work in acute medical settings.
• UK driving licence preferred.
• Eligibility to work for NHS Ayrshire & Arran (internal staff).
