Principal Designer – Engineering Consultancy (Bristol)

About the role

Our client, a respected engineering consultancy in Bristol, is seeking a motivated Principal Designer to support a portfolio of Environment Agency projects across the South West. This permanent, full‑time position offers the chance to develop your career within a multidisciplinary team delivering nationally significant infrastructure and environmental schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver Principal Designer duties in line with CDM Regulations 2015.
• Coordinate design risk management throughout project lifecycles.
• Review design information to identify and eliminate foreseeable construction and operational risks.
• Facilitate design risk workshops and provide CDM advice to project teams.
• Liaise with clients, designers and contractors to promote safe, compliant design solutions.
• Prepare and review pre‑construction information and health‑and‑safety documentation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and the development of CDM best practice across the business.

Required profile

• Approximately five years of construction industry design experience.
• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with a recognised professional institution.
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent health‑and‑safety qualification.
• Strong understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and practical application.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with multidisciplinary teams.
• Proactive problem‑solver committed to delivering safe, practical design solutions.
