Principal Enforcement Officer

About the role

This temporary position, paid at £38.13 per hour PAYE, is based in South East London. The Principal Enforcement Officer will lead and deliver complex housing enforcement activities and investigations within the private rented sector, ensuring compliance with legislation, licensing requirements and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead investigations and enforcement actions on complex housing cases involving breaches of legislation, licensing conditions, property standards and management regulations.
• Provide specialist advice and guidance to managers, senior officers, elected members and partner agencies on housing enforcement law, policy and procedures.
• Ensure enforcement decisions are evidence‑based, proportionate, consistent and fully compliant with relevant statutes and statutory guidance.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading housing enforcement investigations and managing complex cases.
• Strong knowledge of housing legislation, licensing requirements and property standards.
• Ability to advise senior stakeholders and partner organisations on enforcement matters.
• Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills, with a focus on evidence‑based outcomes.
