About the role

The Generative Biology Institute (GBI) is seeking outstanding scientists to lead independent research groups. As a Principal Investigator you will shape a bold research agenda that advances the engineering of biology, contributing to transformative solutions in health, agriculture, clean energy and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and manage a self‑directed research program aligned with GBI’s vision of making biology engineerable.
• Secure and steward substantial funding to support large‑scale, long‑term projects.
• Mentor post‑doctoral researchers, PhD students and technical staff.
• Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams and translate discoveries toward commercial applications where appropriate.
• Publish high‑impact scientific papers and present findings at international conferences.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant life‑science discipline (e.g., synthetic biology, genomics, bioengineering).
• Demonstrated ability to lead a research group or equivalent experience.
• Strong track record of securing competitive research funding.
• Commitment to long‑term, ambitious research with societal impact.
