About the role

We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead complex product development projects in a precision‑focused environment near Edinburgh. You will shape technical direction, guide multidisciplinary teams, and drive innovations from concept through to market release.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on mechanical design projects, including new technologies and product improvements.
• Define system‑level architecture, set design approaches, and embed engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply‑chain colleagues to deliver robust solutions.
• Support prototype development, testing, and product validation activities.
• Lead design reviews, problem‑solving sessions, and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Oversee technical documentation, drawings, and compliance with engineering standards.

Required profile

• Degree‑qualified or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven record of leading technically challenging, multi‑disciplinary projects.
• Experience in regulated, high‑specification or precision engineering environments is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical decisions.
