Principal Mechanical Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of large‑scale data centre projects across the UK. You will act as the technical authority, shaping design strategy and ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design strategy for hyperscale and mission‑critical data centre developments.
• Provide technical authority for complex mechanical solutions and approve engineering designs.
• Deliver robust HVAC, chilled water, condenser water, ventilation and cooling system designs.
• Conduct design assurance and quality control across multiple projects.
• Facilitate multidisciplinary coordination meetings and mentor senior engineers.
• Collaborate with associates and directors to establish best practice standards.
• Present technical solutions to clients, contractors and stakeholders.
• Support bids, fee proposals and technical submissions.
• Identify opportunities for innovation, energy efficiency and value engineering.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in mechanical engineering for data centre or large‑scale commercial projects.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Strong understanding of British Standards and Building Regulations.
• Excellent communication skills for client and stakeholder interaction.
