Principal Service Desk Analyst

About the role

Methods is a £100M+ IT services consultancy supporting public‑sector organisations across the UK. The Principal Service Desk Analyst is the senior escalation point for the Service Desk, responsible for resolving complex incidents, driving proactive problem management and leading service‑desk projects. This role also deputises for the Service Desk Team Leader during periods of high workload or absence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality, end‑to‑end support for internal and external customers, owning incidents from logging to resolution.
• Act as an escalation point, delivering advanced problem resolution and coordinating with internal or external resources.
• Analyse trends and patterns across the IT environment, recommending upstream process or configuration changes.
• Maintain patch management and ensure all customer assets are up‑to‑date.
• Mentor junior Service Desk analysts, share knowledge and model best practices.
• Respond to proactive monitoring alerts to meet SLA commitments.

Required profile

• Proven experience working on a Service Desk in a complex IT environment.
• Strong analytical and creative problem‑solving abilities with a focus on root‑cause identification.
• Excellent communication skills, able to convey technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively and adapt to demanding workloads.
