Principal Software Engineer – Energy & Commodities Trading

About the role

This senior, hands‑on position leads the design and delivery of real‑time, high‑performance trading systems for an Energy & Commodities Trading practice. You will work directly with senior client stakeholders to shape scalable platforms that support critical decision‑making across global trading environments.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and deliver distributed, low‑latency systems for front‑to‑back office trading workflows.
• Build and optimise real‑time data pipelines that feed intraday trading decisions.
• Design integrations for market data feeds, positions, P&L, risk and back‑office platforms.
• Define engineering standards, architecture patterns and coding best practices across multiple delivery workstreams.
• Mentor and technically lead engineers across teams.
• Partner with senior client stakeholders to shape data, AI and platform road‑maps.
• Lead delivery of front, middle and back‑office transformation initiatives through production.
• Own technical relationships with senior engineering and trading stakeholders, translating complex trading requirements into scalable, production‑grade systems.

Required profile

• Proven senior technical leadership in high‑performance, low‑latency environments.
• Hands‑on experience building real‑time streaming systems and distributed architectures.
• Strong background in cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) and managed data services.
• Experience with both transactional and analytical/time‑series databases.
