Principal Structural Engineer

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Structural Engineer to join a well‑established and growing engineering consultancy in St Helens. The consultancy has a strong reputation for delivering practical, high‑quality structural solutions across residential, commercial, industrial, and public sector projects and continues to expand its portfolio throughout the North West and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design of structures in steel, reinforced concrete, timber, and masonry
• Oversee technical delivery and quality assurance
• Manage project programmes, budgets, and resources
• Act as the primary point of contact for key clients
• Mentor and develop engineers and technicians
• Support business development and tender submissions
• Contribute to the strategic growth of the consultancy

Required profile

• Holds a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Is Chartered (CEng) with IStructE or ICE
• Has extensive UK consultancy experience
• Demonstrates strong technical expertise and leadership capability
• Proven track record of managing projects and teams
• Communicates effectively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
