Principal Surveyor – Estate Management

About the role

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Principal Surveyor to lead high‑profile property initiatives and shape the future of its diverse estate portfolio. This senior position influences strategic decisions that support economic growth, community outcomes and long‑term council objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex acquisitions, disposals, development transactions and community asset transfers.
• Support regeneration projects and major capital investment programmes.
• Manage commercial property interests, including landlord duties, lease administration and rent reviews.
• Generate capital receipts and maximise value from the council’s property assets.
• Collaborate with senior officers, elected members, partners and external stakeholders to deliver strategic outcomes.

Required profile

• Chartered Surveyor with current RICS membership.
• Degree‑level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
• Extensive experience managing complex property and estate matters in a large organisation.
• Proven track record of delivering land acquisitions, disposals and regeneration‑related projects.
• Experience leading technical teams and managing change successfully.
