Principal Trainee Auditor – NHS Internal Audit

About the role

This is a graduate‑level trainee position within the NHS Shared Service MIAA, offering a pathway to become a qualified internal auditor. You will work on a variety of audit assignments across multiple public‑sector clients while completing a professional qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Perform both routine and complex audit assignments, including non‑financial audits.
• Apply risk management and governance principles to audit planning and delivery.
• Supervise, coach and provide overtime support to junior staff.
• Respond to sensitive and complex client and staff queries.
• Support Audit Managers with operational requirements and client interactions.
• Travel to client sites across Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, North Wales and other regions.

• Willingness to travel and work across multiple client locations.
• Ability to work in a hybrid model – office, client site and home.
• Interest in internal audit within the NHS and public sector.
