Private Client Tax Manager / Senior Manager

About the role

Reed is partnering with a leading independent accountancy firm to hire a Private Client Tax Manager or Senior Manager for its St Albans office. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality tax compliance and advisory services to a portfolio of high‑net‑worth individuals, sole traders and partnerships.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of income tax, National Insurance and capital gains tax for clients.
• Review and approve Self‑Assessment returns prepared by staff before electronic filing.
• Engage directly with clients via email, phone and face‑to‑face meetings on inheritance tax, income tax, capital gains tax and related matters.
• Prepare advisory reports covering IHT planning, pension planning, residence, UK trusts and business structures.
• Attend meetings with existing and prospective clients, set budgets and ensure timely delivery within those budgets.
• Handle HMRC correspondence, including s9A enquiries and digital disclosures.
• Oversee information collection for tax returns and coordinate with other professionals.
• Manage quarterly billing, reserves and keep partners informed of billing issues.
• Monitor personal time budgets, chargeability and contribute to departmental meetings.

Required profile

• CTA qualification is essential.
• Minimum 2 years private client tax experience for Manager level, 5 years for Senior Manager level.
• Strong organisational ability and the capacity to work independently to meet deadlines.
• Effective people‑management skills and commercial awareness.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
