Procurement & Category Manager Consultant (3-month contract)

About the role

Our client, a large local government organisation, is seeking an experienced Procurement and Category Manager to work on a three‑month contract, with the possibility of extension. The role will focus on strategic commercial transformation, governance, and delivering measurable savings across the council.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic commercial and transformation initiatives, ensuring robust governance and process assurance.
• Design, implement and embed contract management strategies, processes and methodologies across all council areas.
• Drive category management methodology to achieve immediate and long‑term savings through strategic sourcing.
• Develop and deliver training, coaching and mentoring programmes for staff to sustain change.
• Classify contracts into gold, silver and bronze tiers and assign appropriate management tasks.
• Create and roll out standardised templates and guidance for colleagues at all levels.

Required profile

• Proven track record in public‑sector procurement, contract and category management.
• Experience designing and implementing contract management strategies and category management frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver training and embed long‑term change.
• Immediate availability and willingness to work within IR35 rules.
