Product Support Engineer – Diesel Engines (Field-Based)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Product Support Engineer to provide field‑based diesel engine support for a leading rolling‑stock manufacturer. The role covers customer sites across Manchester, Leeds and Salisbury, delivering repairs, planned maintenance and fault diagnosis on diesel engines fitted to rail vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical maintenance and repairs on rolling‑stock diesel engines.
• Perform bearing replacements and other mechanical component changes.
• Diagnose engine faults and execute effective repairs.
• Complete both planned and reactive maintenance activities.
• Travel to customer depots and maintenance facilities, often working 10‑hour shifts.
• Adhere to safety procedures and railway industry standards.
• Prepare accurate service documentation and maintenance reports.
• Liaise professionally with customers and internal engineering teams.

Required profile

• Previous experience working on diesel engines within rolling‑stock, heavy plant, HGV, military or similar sectors.
• Strong mechanical fault‑finding and repair capability.
• Proven experience with bearing changes and general engine overhaul work.
• NVQ Level 2 (or higher) in a relevant engineering discipline.

What we offer

• Rate of £35.00 per hour
• Minimum 6‑month contract
