Production Planner

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Production Planner to join a government client in Reading. The role is full‑time, on‑site, and runs until 31 December 2027 with the possibility of extension. It operates inside IR35 and requires Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide production planning services across manufacturing and scientific demand.
• Maintain and update the Master Production Schedule and supplementary schedules.
• Detail plan manufacturing methods, ensuring time, cost and quality targets are met.
• Keep the local MRP system accurate and up‑to‑date.
• Apply Lean Planning techniques, visual management, Kanban and push/pull processes.
• Identify and resolve blocks or barriers to progress.
• Attend Visual Management board meetings and track actions.
• Liaise with delivery units, suppliers and internal teams to balance and de‑conflict demands.
• Support the creation and maintenance of Basis of Estimate for production costs and schedules.

Required profile

• Proven experience in production planning within manufacturing or precision engineering.
• Engineering background with strong understanding of machining processes and shop‑floor operations.
• Experience managing material availability, supplier deliveries, purchase orders and production schedules.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across supply‑chain and operations teams.
• Good computer literacy and ability to produce accurate planning and performance reports.

What we offer

• Hourly rate of £25‑£31.79 (inside IR35).
• Fixed‑term contract until 31 December 2027 with potential extension.
• Full‑time onsite role in Reading, 5 days a week.
