Production Shift Manager – 3 Shift Rotation

About the role

This permanent, full‑time position is based at a leading manufacturing site in Newcastle upon Tyne. The Shift Manager will oversee three rotating shifts, ensuring smooth 24/7 production operations while championing safety and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead shift operations, allocating resources to meet production targets.
• Manage shift handovers to maintain seamless continuity.
• Conduct initial safety and conduct investigations in line with company procedures.
• Hold Return‑to‑Work meetings after employee absences.
• Run low‑level conduct and absence management meetings.
• Ensure accurate, timely stock checks.
• Make labour allocation decisions and keep precise absence records.
• Monitor daily KPIs and drive performance against targets.
• Lead daily operational meetings to communicate priorities and updates.
• Coordinate ordering of PPE and workwear to keep stock levels adequate.
• Promote 100% participation in unsafe situation reporting.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and housekeeping.
• Escalate out‑of‑hours operational, engineering, and SHE issues as required.
• Work a rotating three‑shift pattern (day, night, back) supporting 24/7 operations.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a team in an engineering/manufacturing environment.
• Minimum GCSE education; additional qualifications such as IOSH, NVQ, NEBOSH, LEAN are desirable.
• Strong commitment to health & safety and ability to act as a role model.
• Positive “can‑do” attitude with drive to succeed and motivate others.
• Excellent communication skills and calmness under pressure.
