Production Shift Manager – Energy-from-Waste

About the role

This is a hands‑on operational management position within a 24‑hour Energy‑from‑Waste facility. You will take full responsibility for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the plant during your shift, supporting production targets and plant performance.

Key responsibilities

• Control the plant safely within operating limits while meeting production and performance goals.
• Coordinate waste processing, combustion, boiler, steam and turbine operations.
• Monitor plant performance via the Distributed Control System (DCS) and respond to abnormal conditions.
• Manage start‑ups, shutdowns and operational recovery activities.
• Operate and oversee permit‑to‑work and other safe systems of work.
• Schedule maintenance to minimise disruption and loss.
• Ensure emissions and environmental permit requirements are met.
• Lead, coach and develop the shift team, handling training and succession planning.
• Support incident investigations, continuous improvement projects and maintain accurate operational records.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of operational experience in Energy‑from‑Waste, waste incineration or comparable thermal‑treatment facilities.
• At least two years of people‑management or supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of waste combustion, incineration systems and emissions control.
• Proven ability to make calm, sound decisions under plant‑operating pressures.
• Relevant technical qualification such as HNC/HND or equivalent.
