Professor of Leadership and Director of Custom Learning

About the role

The University of Bristol Business School is seeking an outstanding academic leader to join the Centre for Purposeful Leadership as Professor of Leadership and Director of Custom Learning. This dual appointment combines a permanent professorial role with a three‑year term leading the School’s custom executive education portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead world‑class research in leadership and organisation, contributing to the School’s strategic priorities.
• Design and deliver research‑led teaching across undergraduate, postgraduate and executive programmes.
• Build and sustain strategic partnerships with external organisations, translating research into impactful learning experiences for senior leaders.
• Direct the Custom Learning unit, identifying bespoke programme opportunities and driving income‑generation activities.
• Participate in school leadership, mentoring colleagues, supporting research and teaching development, and contributing to strategic initiatives.
• Enhance the School’s international reputation through research, engagement and collaboration with academic and non‑academic audiences.

Required profile

• Strong international research record with high‑quality publications in leadership and organisation.
• Experience leading research projects and securing external funding.
• Proven commitment to high‑quality teaching and curriculum development.
• Background in executive, professional or continuing education and ability to translate research for senior‑level audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and partnerships with external organisations.
