Project Manager - Capital Projects

About the role

Join Northern Gas Networks as a Project Manager within the Capital Delivery Team, leading the safe and efficient delivery of capital works across the North East, Yorkshire and Cumbria. You will own schemes from concept to completion, ensuring they meet safety, programme, cost and quality targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all SHEQ activities on site, including inspections, audits and compliance checks.
• Review engineering designs for buildability, safety and cost‑effectiveness.
• Procure, tender and award contracts for design, materials and construction works.
• Manage NEC4 contracts, tracking progress, handling changes and conducting commercial assessments.
• Provide accurate programme, risk and forecast updates to senior management.
• Prepare and present business cases for investment approval.
• Develop a Safe Systems of Work (SCO) portfolio towards Competent Person status.
• Coordinate contractors, suppliers and internal teams to keep projects on schedule.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing construction or engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of construction management, contract management and project delivery.
• Ability to manage cost, risk and programme on live projects and produce reliable forecasts.
• Excellent organisational and planning capabilities.
• Experience working with Safe Systems of Work and issuing/receiving permits.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the operational area.

What we offer

• Salary from £50,742 per year plus up to 10% bonus.
• Car allowance of £6,500 per annum.
• Permanent contract, 40‑hour week.
