Project Manager – Civil Infrastructure

About the role

Waggoner Engineering, Inc. is looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead civil infrastructure projects from concept through closeout in Birmingham, AL. The role combines technical oversight with client relationship management and mentorship of junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multi‑disciplinary projects, ensuring technical quality, budget control and schedule adherence.
• Prepare engineering studies, designs, plans, specifications and cost estimates in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
• Serve as primary client contact, providing proactive communication and high‑quality service.
• Utilize Deltek and other project management systems to track records, monitor financials, process invoicing and execute closeout.
• Conduct site visits, review submittals and RFIs, and resolve field issues during construction.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide performance feedback to Discipline Managers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum five years of project management experience with direct client interaction.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Alabama.
• Five or more years of supervisory or coordination experience.
• Ability to complete Waggoner’s PM qualification within one year of hire.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with Microstation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Knowledge of WaterCAD.
• Familiarity with Deltek project management software.
