Project Manager - Local Government Transformation

About the role

This is a hands‑on Project Manager position supporting a high‑profile Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) programme for an Upper Tier Authority. The role will focus on delivering multiple workstreams, turning design outputs into concrete actions and ensuring the transformation stays on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Drive day‑to‑day project activities, defining and managing plans, milestones and dependencies.
• Coordinate across several councils, finance, procurement and service teams to keep delivery on track.
• Identify, log and mitigate risks and issues, ensuring timely resolution.
• Facilitate workshops and translate outcomes into actionable deliverables.
• Work closely with Programme Managers and senior stakeholders to maintain momentum and clarity.

Required profile

• Recent (last 6‑9 months) experience on Local Government Reorganisation projects, especially in early‑stage proposal or mobilisation phases.
• Proven ability to manage complex plans, risks, issues and cross‑organisational dependencies.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills within a multi‑council environment.
• Excellent organisational detail and a focus on maintaining delivery pace.

Required skills

• Project management methodology (e.g., PRINCE2, MSP) applied to public‑sector programmes.
• Risk and issue management tools.
• Dependency tracking and reporting.

• £600 per day rate, inside IR35.
